What You Can Do to Promote Zero Growth

(1) Become thoroughly familiar with the problems and the dangers arising from unrestrained growth (check out our links and recommended reading).

(2) Wear a Zero Growth button or put a Zero Growth sticker on your car in hopes your friends and neighbors will ask you what it's all about (see Buttons/Stickers) - just think what an impact it would have if as many cars sported Zero Growth stickers as do the ubiquitous "God Bless America" stickers!

(3) Get appointed or elected to your local planning commission or board of supervisors and promote zero growth there while becoming familiar with the legal and political obstacles to implementing zero growth at the local level (see Alternatives to Growth - Oregon for some ideas about how to thwart sprawl).

(4) Support curbs on immigration, framing your arguments in terms of zero growth instead of the usual parameters (jobs, welfare, assimilation).

(5) Support population control, being sensitive to the ethical issues concerning methods which embroil the topic, again framing your position within the broader scope of the ethic of Zero Growth.

(6) Read the proposed Oil Depletion Protocol and support it and other efforts to restrain our consumption of earth's vital and finite resources.

(7) Take a position on economic growth (Steady State, then to ACTION PAGE).

(8) Devise a new monetary system which does not depend on growth for its success, i.e., one which is not founded on credit-based money creation (start by reading Richard Douthwaite's The Ecology of Money).
